St. Patrick’s Day is almost here and it’s time to really start ramping up the St. Patrick’s Day activities! This FREE St. Patrick’s Day Cereal Sorting is perfect. It will encourage young learners to practice sorting and work on their fine motor skills. It’s a great activity for toddlers, preschool, pre-k, and kindergarten age children.
What you will need:
A plastic bowl
Lucky Charms Cereal
St. Patrick’s Day Cereal Sorting Printable
Before you get started:
Pour some of the Lucky Charms Cereal into a plastic bowl. You could also laminate the St. Patrick’s Day Cereal Sorting Printable if you want to use it more than once. If you don’t laminate it you will most likely have to throw the printable away. The marshmallows can get a little sticky.
Let the FUN start:
Before I let Madelyn sort the cereal, I first showed her that there were two different kinds of thing in the cereal. I showed her the regular cereal and then the marshmallows. I gave her a few pieces and told her if she tried her best she could have a few more pieces after we did the activity. I then went over the St. Patrick’s Day Cereal Sorting Printable with her. I showed her that it had two different pictures, a cereal bowl and a rainbow with marshmallow pictures on it. I took a few pieces from the bowl and showed her the correct place to put them. Madelyn is 22 months old so she is just learning how to sort objects. It took her a few tries but after that she was a cereal sorting pro! Towards the end my other daughter Grace (she just turned 4) couldn’t help herself and she joined in too. The girls were having such a great time sorting the cereal I think they forgot there were marshmallows right in front of them. LOL………..
This St. Patrick’s Day Cereal Sorting was SO much fun! It’s a great way to teach sorting and fine motor skills at home or in the classroom. I really enjoy doing activities with my daughter that combine learning, play and a yummy snack! I hope your kids love this activity too as much as my girls did!
