SNACK ALPHABET TODDLER ACTIVITY

Want to combine snack time with learning?  Then try this snack alphabet toddler activity.

I love this activity because it combines many different skills into one activity and my daughter (Grace) loved it because she could also have a tasty snack at the same time.

This activity was also really easy to set up and Grace was engaged in active learning for about 20 minutes!  Let’s get started……………..

Materials:

Directions: Write one letter of the alphabet on a piece of colored construction paper with the black marker or crayon.  After writing the letter I show my daughter and repeat the name of the letter several times.  Then I ask her to tell me the name of the letter.  Pour the snack item into the plastic bowl.  Then trace over the letter with the glue and show your child how to place the snack item on the glue to make the letter with the snack.  Continue with these directions in order to complete every letter of the alphabet.

How did my daughter do with this activity?

She loved it!  She was so excited that she could also eat the snack and do an activity at the same time.  She worked on this activity for about 20 minutes and was able to cover the letters completely on her own.  I had her complete 2 letters a day (she is almost 3 years old).

What is she learning during this activity?

  • Letter recognition
  • Fine motor skills
  • Following directions

Extending this activity is so easy!

There are so many things that can be done to extend this fun and easy activity.

  • Sorting – if you are having your child do more than one letter try combining the snack items in the bowl. Then have them sort the snack items into 2 bowls before starting this activity.
  • Name Recognition – write your child’s name on a piece of construction paper and have them trace their name with snacks.
  • Learning Shapes – draw different shapes on construction paper and complete this activity.
  • Number Recognition – write numbers on a piece of construction paper and have them trace the numbers with snacks.

My daughter loves this activity and is so excited to do more learning with snacks.  Have your kids do this activity and make snack time the best part of their day!
